Job Summary:
The Digital Assets Manager is responsible for the efficient coordination and management of digital assets within the Library and Information Science department. This role entails organizing, cataloging, preserving, and providing access to digital resources to support the department's information management initiatives. The Digital Assets Manager will work closely with the Library and Information Science Manager to ensure that all digital assets are appropriately processed, maintained, and made accessible to relevant stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement strategies for the organization, classification, and preservation of digital assets.
2. Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and document metadata requirements for digital resources.
3. Create and maintain a centralized database or digital asset management system to enable efficient storage, retrieval, and distribution of digital assets.
4. Oversee the digitization process, ensuring adherence to quality standards and best practices.
5. Establish and enforce policies and procedures for the acquisition, ingestion, and management of digital assets.
6. Conduct regular audits of the digital asset management system to ensure accuracy and completeness of metadata.
7. Provide training and support to library staff on the proper use and maintenance of the digital asset management system.
8. Stay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and industry standards related to digital asset management.
9. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with copyright and licensing requirements for digital assets.
10. Monitor and evaluate the performance of the digital asset management system, identifying areas for improvement and implementing enhancements as needed.
11. Assist in the development and execution of digital preservation strategies to safeguard long-term access to digital resources.
12. Stay informed about current developments in library and information science, particularly with regard to digital asset management and preservation.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's or master's degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
2. Proven experience in managing digital assets, preferably within a library or information management setting.
3. Strong knowledge of metadata standards and best practices, such as Dublin Core, MODS, or METS.
4. Proficiency in using digital asset management systems and related software tools.
5. Familiarity with digitization processes and techniques, including scanning, image editing, OCR, and file formats.
6. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on finding innovative solutions for digital asset management challenges.
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
9. Knowledge of copyright laws and licensing agreements related to digital assets.
10. Familiarity with emerging technologies and trends in digital asset management and preservation.
11. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
12. Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and evolving technological landscapes.
